Zile de sărbătoare pentru studenţii ieşeni

În perioada 2-6 noiembrie, cu prilejul Zilele Casei de Cultură a Studenţilor, la Iaşi se vor desfăşura diverse evenimente la care sunt invitaţi să participe toţi ieşenii.
Printre evenimente se numără Festivalul „Hora celor şapte coline”, care va avea loc în serile de 2 şi 3 noiembrie, la ora 17, unde interpreţi din toată ţara vor încerca să-i încânte pe spectatori cu momente artistice specifice fiecărei zone a ţării. Pe scenă vor urca Ansamblul Folcloric Studenţesc „Doina Carpaţilor” din Iaşi, Ansamblul Folcloric Studenţesc „Junii Braşovului” de la Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor din Braşov, Ansamblul Folcloric Studenţesc „Mărţişorul” de la Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor din Cluj Napoca şi Ansamblul Folcloric Studenţesc „Mugurelul” de la Universitatea de Ştiinţe Agricole şi Medicină Veterinară „Ion Ionescu de la Brad” Iaşi. De asemenea, spectacolul aniversar „Made in România” este cel mai nou proiect al Casei de Cultură a Studenţilor şi va fi prezentat cu ocazia împlinirii a celor 62 de ani de existenţă. Toate trupele şi cluburile care îşi susţin activitatea în această instituţie, precum Ansamblul Folcloric „Doina Carpaţilor” Iaşi, trupa de dans „The Sky”, clubul de chitară „Petran & Students”, teatrul studenţesc „Ludic”, clubul de jazz „Richard Oschanitzky” şi mulţi alţii vor face parte din distribuţia ce va avea loc pe data de 4 noiembrie, la ora 19.
Pe 5 noiembrie va avea loc „Gala Studentului Ieşean 2019”, eveniment organizat în parteneriat cu Ministerul Tineretului şi Sportului şi universităţile ieşene, unde Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor din Iaşi va premia excelenţa în educaţie, artă şi implicarea în comunitate. Gala va fi dedicată exclusiv studenţilor ieşeni, care vor fi premiaţi pentru rezultatele obţinute în domeniul în care studiază, membrilor cluburilor artistice şi organizaţiilor studenţeşti care au obţinut în ultimii trei ani finanţare pentru proiectele derulate în judeţ.
Festivitatea se vor încheia cu „Ziua Porţilor Deschise”, ce va avea loc pe data de 6 noiembrie, între orele 18 şi 22, eveniment care va informa tinerii, prin ateliere demonstrative, despre programele şi oportunităţile oferite de către Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor pe parcursul anului universitar 2019-2020

Dezvoltare personală prin creșterea inteligenței relaționale, la Universitatea „Cuza” Iași

Centrul de Dezvoltare Personală și Formare Profesională, din cadrul Universității „Cuza” organizează înscrieri pentru interesante cursuri. Este vorba despre „Formator” și „Dezvoltare personală prin creșterea inteligenței relaționale”.

În cadrul cursului „Formator”, participanții acumulează informații și își dezvoltă deprinderi esențiale pentru a putea preda și îndruma procese variate de învățare. Pe parcursul celor 180 de ore de instruire și abilitare practică, cursanții parcurg teorii consacrate. Asta cu privire la designul, livrarea și evaluarea unui proces de formare, dar exersează și deprinderile necesare unui formator.

„Cursul se adresează absolvenților de studii superioare cu diplomă de licență care doresc să dobândească sau să își dezvolte abilitățile de formator pentru dezvoltare personală sau care sunt interesați de o carieră în resurse umane sau în organizații în care se dezvoltă programe de formare. Participanții primesc la absolvirea cursurilor un certificat emis de Autoritatea Națională de Calificări (ANC, fostul CNFPA). UK university strikes: Students face disruption as university staff back fresh walkouts

Industrial action ‘inevitable’ if institutions fail to address concerns, union leader warns

More than a million students could face a fresh wave of walkouts at universities across the UK, after staff have voted in favour of strike action over pensions, pay and working conditions.

Students at 56 institutions could be disrupted by strikes after university workers backed action in a dispute over pay and conditions, the University and College Union (UCU) announced.

A separate ballot on pension changes may also lead to industrial action at 43 universities and colleges across the UK.

Overall, 79 per cent of UCU members who voted in a ballot over pensions backed strike action and 74 per cent of UCU members in a ballot over pay and working conditions supported walkouts.

It comes after universities were brought to a standstill by unprecedented strikes last year over pensions. Some institutions were forced to pay compensation to students over lost hours.

University staff will pay around £40,000 more into their pension – but they will receive nearly £200,000 less in retirement following reforms to the pension scheme, the UCU says.

Increased contributions and other changes to the universities superannuation scheme (USS) mean that many people are suffering substantial losses, the union has previously warned.

The list of universities that could be affected by strike action includes many leading institutions in the UK – such as Cambridge, Oxford, Durham and University College London.

Jo Grady, general secretary of the UCU, said: “The ballots reflect just how unhappy and angry staff are at the state of higher education in the UK.

“It is incredibly frustrating that we had to ballot members again, but universities only have themselves to blame after failing to address falling real-terms pay and for refusing to deal with casualisation, workloads and the rising cost of USS pensions.

“Universities now have to come back to us prepared to work seriously to address these problems. If they choose to ignore this message from their staff then strike action looks inevitable.”

The union said it balloted more than 52,000 USS members in 69 universities for strike action and overall turnout was 53 per cent.

A spokesperson for Universities UK, which represents university employers, said: “Employers remain open to further talks with UCU to discuss how the dispute can be resolved without industrial action, which would be damaging for staff and students. Recent negotiations between UCU and Universities UK concluded with no cuts to USS pension benefits, and employers paying the majority of the extra contributions required under pensions law.

“In a challenging economic environment, this outcome is the best that could be achieved. Crucially, it is acceptable to both the USS Trustee and The Pensions Regulator.”

The union’s higher education committee will meet on Friday to consider the next steps.

Black students more likely to engage in studies – but still attain lower degrees, study finds

Attainment gap at universities should be investigated further, report says

Black students are more likely to engage and participate in their university studies – and yet a larger proportion of them obtain lower-level degrees and have lower satisfaction, according to a new a new study.

Nearly two in three black students from the UK (65 per cent) report high levels of engagement, as opposed to white students (60 per cent) and Chinese students (56 per cent), the survey of nearly 30,000 undergraduates found.

But this dedication to their courses does not appear to translate into better outcomes when compared with other ethnicities, the report from higher education company Advance HE says.

The results also showed that black students are more likely to take part in sports and societies, volunteer and have jobs than white students.

“We can see a real body of evidence of how many black students devote significant time and energy to their time at university,” the report says.

It adds: “Clearly, the issue of ethnicity and attainment within the UK sector is complex and multifaceted and cannot be explained or ‘solved’ by simply ensuring greater levels of engagement. However, what the data does suggest is that the potential among black and minority ethnic (BME) students, and black students in particular, to invest in their own development is significant and could potentially be harnessed more effectively.”

The organisation is calling for an investigation into why the BME attainment gap still exists in the higher education sector despite high levels of engagement among black students.

The report’s author, Jonathan Neves, said: “The untapped potential among black students given their high levels of engagement stands out in the findings and further research and exploration is needed in this area to support work to close the attainment gap.”

An annual study from think tank Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) has repeatedly found that students from ethnic minorities are much less likely to be satisfied with their university experience.

Almost four in five (78 per cent) of white students received a first or a 2:1 in 2015-16, compared to just 53 per cent of black students, Equality Challenge Unit data shows.

On the findings, Nick Hillman, director of HEPI, told The Independent: „I think it shows how complex all these issues are. BME students often arrive at university with different experiences to other students and this can make it harder for people with some ethnic backgrounds to succeed even when they put lots of work in.

„For example, a relatively high proportion of BME students are the first in their family to attend higher education and may also enter university with a different mix of qualifications. Moreover, some students have to undertake more paid employment than others as their families are less wealthy, and this is known to disrupt students’ marks.”

He added: „This is all very challenging for universities to address but address it they must if they are to deliver for all their students and help ensure fairness in educational outcomes.”

Last year, universities admitted that they need to tackle the “pressing problem” that means BME students are less likely to qualify with top degrees than white peers with the same A-level grades.

Universities UK (UUK) and the National Union of Students launched a call for evidence to help understand what barriers BME students face in an attempt to close the attainment gap in higher education.

A UUK spokesperson said:  “Equality of opportunity in higher education is of the utmost importance. We have asked universities to take action to close the BAME student attainment gap and we have provided specific recommendations on how to ensure BAME students are given the best chance of success.”

General election: Labour’s share of student vote at 43 per cent, survey suggests

‘The sheen has faded on Corbyn while the Lib Dems are looking more attractive,’ think tank says

The Labour Party‘s share of the student vote is at 43 per cent as Britain gears up for a general election – down from a high of 70 per cent 20 months ago, according to a new poll.

While it remains the most popular party among students, support among young voters has fallen significantly since their dominant position in February 2018, according to the YouthSight survey.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats have seen their share of the student vote rise from 7 per cent to 22 per cent during the same 20-month period.

The findings come as MPs have backed a bid for a general election on 12 December.

The survey, of 1,000 students taken this month, showed that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is still most popular, but Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson is catching up.

Mr Corbyn has seen his popularity rating decrease from +35 per cent in February 2018 to just +1 per cent this month.

Ms Swinson is only narrowly behind the Labour leader at -2 per cent.

It comes after Labour has been criticised for its ambiguous position on Brexit and for inaction on antisemitism.

The data shows student support for Labour has increased slightly from 38 per cent in August to 43 per cent in October, but it is well below the 70 per cent share in February 2018.

The pro-EU Lib Dems have also seen their student support rise to 22 per cent, which suggests the party is winning back favour with young voters following their U-turn on scrapping tuition fees in 2010.

The Greens are on 14 per cent while the Conservatives have slipped down to 11 per cent.

Josephine Hansom, from YouthSight, said in a blog post: “The Lib Dem brand has been largely detoxified since the damage they experienced after the 2010 student fees debacle. This is a very recent change.

‘Angry’ university workers vote in favour of industrial action

 University and College Union says ballots are indictment of state of higher education

Disillusioned university workers have voted in support of strike action on campuses across the UK following separate ballots over pensions, pay and working conditions.

The University and College Union (UCU) said the result was a serious indictment of the state of higher education, and demonstrated the depth of anger and frustration among those working in the sector, many of whom are on low-paid temporary contracts.

The union urged universities to address members’ concerns and warned that if they failed to do so strike action was “inevitable”, potentially disrupting the studies of about one million students. The UCU’s higher education committee will meet on Friday to consider its next steps, including what form of industrial action it will take and when.

Universities will be keen to avoid a repeat of last year’s industrial action over pension changes which saw 40,000 lecturers, librarians, researchers and other academic staff walk out, bringing campuses to a halt in an unprecedented wave of strikes.

UCU’s general secretary, Jo Grady, who took up the post earlier this year after playing a key role in last year’s strike, said: “The results can only be interpreted as clear support for strike action over pensions, pay and working conditions. The ballots reflect just how unhappy and angry staff are at the state of higher education in the UK.”

According to the UCU, 43 branches beat the 50% turnout threshold for strike action over the universities superannuation scheme (USS), leaving open the option of strike action, while 56 exceeded the threshold on pay and conditions. Overall, 79% of voting members backed a strike in the pensions ballot, while 74% backed strike action over pay, casualisation, equality and workload.

“It is incredibly frustrating that we had to ballot members again,” said Grady, “but universities only have themselves to blame after failing to address falling real-terms pay and for refusing to deal with casualisation, workloads and the rising cost of USS pensions.”

Last year the union succeeded in forcing employers to drop plans to change pensions at universities established before 1992 from defined benefit schemes to the less favourable defined contribution schemes. It is now challenging the size of staff contributions, which it thinks should be capped at 8% of a lecturer’s salary, rather than the 9.6% proposed by employers.

Responding to the outcome of the USS ballot, Universities UK (UUK), which represents 136 universities, said employers were open to further talks in the hope of resolving the dispute without industrial action, which would be damaging for staff and students.

“Recent negotiations between UCU and Universities UK concluded with no cuts to USS pension benefits, and employers paying the majority of the extra contributions required under pensions law,” a UUK spokesman said. “In a challenging economic environment, this outcome is the best that could be achieved. Crucially, it is acceptable to both the USS trustees and the pensions regulator.”

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), which represents employers in pay talks, said “low turnouts” and “patchy ballot results” suggested limited support for a pay dispute, indicating an understanding of the “financial realities” for universities.

“For the handful of institutions where UCU members have voted in sufficient numbers to support industrial action, it is unclear how they can possibly pursue UCU’s national pay dispute,” a UCEA spokesman said.

Grady added: “Universities now have to come back to us prepared to work seriously to address these problems. If they choose to ignore this message from their staff then strike action looks inevitable.”

La Sorbonne va organiser un grand débat ouvert à tous sur la radicalisation

INFO LE FIGARO – De grands débats sur l’islam radical mais aussi sur «toutes les formes de radicalisation», gratuits et ouverts à tous, seront organisés par l’université parisienne.

Le président de l’université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne est en colère. Georges Haddad n’a pas vu d’un très bon œil les critiques qui lui ont été adressées après que son université a dû mettre un terme, sous la pression des syndicats d’étudiants et d’enseignants, à une série de conférences de l’écrivain Mohamed Sifaoui sur «la détection des signaux faibles» de radicalisation.

Georges Haddad promet aujourd’hui que ces conférences, qui avaient été organisées de concert avec la mosquée de Paris pour former certains imams avant d’être ouvertes à un public plus large d’élus et de fonctionnaires, auront bien lieu au cours d’un «grand débat universitaire» ouvert à tous et gratuit, dans les prochaines semaines.

LE FIGARO – Quelle a été votre réaction à la polémique autour de l’annulation des conférences de Mohamed Sifaoui?

Georges Haddad – Je ne comprends pas cette polémique. Fin juin, je déjeunais avec le recteur de la mosquée de Paris Dalil Boubakeur qui m’a demandé de former certains imams à la laïcité, en formation continue, pour mieux assimiler ce qu’est la laïcité, comment elle s’est établie et comment elle est devenue le ciment de la société française. Ça me paraissait particulièrement intéressant, d’autant que nous comptions convier à cette formation des rabbins, des prêtres catholiques et des pasteurs protestants.

Nous avons donc mis en place une petite formation, non diplômante, de deux jours par mois. Un peu plus tard, il a été décidé sans que j’en sois informé que cette formation avec monsieur Sifaoui serait dupliquée et ouverte à un public plus large, notamment de policiers, gendarmes, fonctionnaires ou élus. Ce genre de formations s’ouvrent en effet assez librement, passent par le directeur du centre de formations continues et ne remontent pas toujours jusqu’à moi.

Assez vite, j’ai vu apparaître une protestation des syndicats étudiants et enseignants contre ces formations, mais aucune plainte de la part d‘un quelconque groupe musulman, ni bien sûr de la mosquée de Paris qui était demandeur de cette formation et qui est notre partenaire depuis vingt ans. Je lis dans la presse que j’ai succombé à des groupes musulmans, mais c’est absolument faux, aucun d’entre eux ne m’a contacté, ce ne sont que les syndicats.

Pourquoi avez-vous décidé d’annuler ces formations?

Je n’ai pas eu le choix devant l’ampleur de la polémique, et je reconnais que le titre était maladroit et la personnalité de Mohamed Sifaoui, que je n’avais jamais rencontré jusque-là, a peut-être mis la lumière sur cette formation. Pourtant, contrairement à ce que j’ai pu lire, ce n’était pas du tout un grand débat universitaire sur la radicalisation, c’était payant, autour de 1 000 euros, et donc restreint à de petits groupes. Ce grand débat sur la radicalisation, je tiens donc à l’organiser.

Comment sera-t-il organisé?

Pour moi, quand l’université aborde ces grandes questions de radicalisation elle doit le faire dans une dimension ouverte au plus grand nombre. Nous allons donc organiser un grand débat public gratuit sur l’islam radical, mais aussi sur toutes les autres formes de radicalisation qui viennent nous empêcher de penser librement.

Nous aborderons ces questions de façon universitaire: avec une vision pluridisciplinaire, dans un esprit de dialogue, pour éclairer la société qui nous fait confiance sur ces débats fondamentaux. N’oublions pas que l’université est une institution citoyenne. Elle n’est pas juste un établissement de recherche diplômant, mais aussi un lieu de dialogue et de confrontation des idées pour tous.

Une centaine de «campus connectés» vont être créés pour étudier à distance

Une centaine de nouveaux «campus connectés», avec la possibilité de suivre des cours à distance sur ordinateur, vont être créés à l’horizon 2022.

Ce dispositif, destiné à des jeunes qui sans cela seraient privés d’études pour raisons financières ou qui souhaitent ne pas s’éloigner de leur famille, est déjà expérimenté depuis la rentrée dans 13 villes françaises.

La ministre de l’Enseignement supérieur Frédérique Vidal a annoncé jeudi à Nice le lancement «d’un nouvel appel à projet doté de 25 millions d’euros afin de soutenir la création d’une centaine de nouveaux campus connectés, pour plus de 4000 étudiants», à l’horizon 2022.

«Un geste significatif»

«L’objectif est d’empêcher que subsistent ou se créent de nouvelles barrières à la formation (…), avec un encadrement individualisé et sans être forcés à quitter leurs territoires d’origine», explique le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur dans un communiqué.

«C’est un geste significatif du gouvernement afin de donner à chaque territoire, à chaque collectivité, à chaque agglomération des leviers pour former sa jeunesse et construire son avenir économique et industriel», a souligné Frédérique Vidal, citée dans ce communiqué.

Les formations proposées seront majoritairement des BTS

Les jeunes ont un emploi du temps et passent les mêmes examens que les autres, qui donneront le même diplôme. Les contenus sont identiques aux cours dispensés dans la fac mais «avec une pédagogie adaptée» à l’enseignement à distance.

Les formations proposées seront majoritairement des BTS, des licences de littérature, de droit, de langue étrangère, de mathématiques etc.

Les droits d’inscription sont les mêmes que pour les autres étudiants de l’université qui fournit le contenu pédagogique. Les boursiers sont exemptés, comme c’est le cas pour toute inscription à la fac.

En Seine-et-Marne, le château pour étudiants en quête de sens

REPORTAGE Sur le Campus de la transition, étudiants et jeunes diplômés suivent, en résidence, des cours sur le changement climatique ou les modèles alternatifs de croissance.

Il faut faire attention aux ronces, et avoir un bon coup de serpette. Ce vendredi, sous le soleil d’automne, huit étudiants de l’école des Mines désherbent un bout de verger du château de Forges (Seine-et-Marne), rebaptisé, depuis un an, le Campus de la transition. Quelques minutes plus tôt, sous le fronton sculpté, la trentaine d’étudiants présents ce jour-là s’étaient répartis à différents postes : couche de peinture dans les chambres du deuxième étage, allers-retours à la déchetterie, entretien du potager, préparation du repas…

S’il est un lieu qui incarne les aspirations collectives et individuelles d’une partie de la jeunesse étudiante, ce pourrait être ce château du XVIIIe siècle, bâti au milieu d’une propriété de douze hectares aux confins de l’Ile-de-France. Ici, à 80 kilomètres de la capitale, des têtes bien pleines – élèves d’écoles de commerce, d’ingénieurs, de masters universitaires – viennent, via leur établissement ou de manière individuelle, se former à la « transition écologique et sociale ». Le tout pour quelques jours ou quelques semaines, en dormant dans l’une des 45 chambres à partager, dont beaucoup sont encore en chantier.

Comment se sont-ils retrouvés dans cette somptueuse propriété semi-abandonnée, édifiée pour un baron guillotiné à la Révolution, et qui fut aussi la demeure d’un sénateur président de la compagnie du canal de Suez ? L’histoire commence il y a près de deux ans, lorsque Cécile Renouard, professeure aux Mines et à l’Essec, visite le château de Forges. Il venait d’être déserté par ses propriétaires, des religieuses de l’Assomption, qui y avaient hébergé, un temps, un lycée horticole catholique.
