About the faculty

The Faculty of Philosophy has been created in 1856 and it represents the starting point of the foundation of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in 1860, together with the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Law. Among the Romanian personalities that have thaught Philosophy there may be named: Titu Maiorescu, Vasile Conta, Simion Bărnuţiu, Dimitrie Gusti, Ştefan Zeletin, Ion Petrovici, Mihai Ralea, Petre Andrei, Alexandru Claudian, Ştefan Bărsănescu, Vasile Pavelcu, Petre Botezatu, Ernest Stere.

The Faculty of Philosophy became an autonomous institution in 1990.
