Visiting Scholar
The Visiting Scholar Program aims to strengthen the international dimension of the university’s teaching and research activities; offer students access to innovative lectures, and seminars delivered in English or another international language; foster collaborative research projects between visiting professors and researchers and the university’s academic staff, with the goal of submitting at least one joint scientific publication (an article in highly visible international journals or a chapter in an international edited book) as a tangible outcome of the visit; encourage the exchange of academic expertise and best practices across disciplines; enhance the international visibility and reputation of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași through sustainable partnerships.
Applicants must:
- Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) and demonstrate substantial academic and research experience;
- Be affiliated with a higher education or research institution outside Romania, recognized as such by the national authorities from its country of origin;
- Have a strong record of teaching or research and publication in their academic field;
- Be able to teach in English (or another international language used at the university Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași) or to conduct collaborative research using an international language for communication purposes;
- Submit a clear proposal for teaching and/or research activities to be undertaken during the visit;
- Demonstrate commitment to collaborative research with university staff, leading to a joint publication.
The program welcomes applications from scholars in all academic disciplines. Interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged.
Visiting Scholars are expected to:
- Deliver one or more lectures or seminars to undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral students and/or engage in collaborative research activities with faculty members or research institutes members, resulting in a joint scientific output (article in highly visible international journals or a chapter in an international edited book);
- Give (at least) one public lecture, open to the academic community of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași and to the local community of Iași;
- Participate in the academic life of the university, such as colloquia, workshops, and mentoring sessions;
- Contribute to the development of long-term international partnerships and research proposals.
Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași will provide:
- Administrative and logistical support, including access to office space, library, and research facilities;
- Integration within the host faculty or research center and participation in university events;
- Tickets for the round trip travel, free on-campus accommodation, and 5000 lei (aprox.1000 Euro)/month stipend;
- Assistance in disseminating the results of collaborative research and publications.
Duration of the scientific visit:
- 1 to 3 months
Applications for visits of a longer/shorter duration are also welcome and they will be evaluated individually with respect to responsibilities and benefits.
Applications must include the following documents (in PDF format) submitted by August 15, 2026 to visiting.scholar@uaic.ro:
- Letter of Intent (maximum 2 pages) describing motivation, proposed teaching and/or research activities, and expected outcomes;
- Curriculum Vitae (in English), including a list of publications;
- Proposal for teaching activities (title, abstract, format, target audience);
- Outline of research collaboration, indicating potential co-authors and the expected joint publication;
- Letter of support from a faculty member or researcher/research group within the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași.
Applications will be evaluated by an institutional committee based on:
- Academic excellence and international experience;
- Relevance and quality of the proposed teaching and/or research activities;
- Potential for collaboration with university staff;
- Expected scientific and institutional impact of the visit.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an online interview or discussion with potential host units.
