Residence Permit/ Residence Registration

  • Students with EU citizenship

Since January 2001 citizens of the Schengen countries no longer need a visa to enter Romania. Since you stay longer than 3 months, you need to register at the General Inspectorate for Immigration online, via this portal: https://portaligi.mai.gov.ro/portaligi/.The following documents are required:

  1. Application form (will be taken directly from the General Inspectorate for Immigrations at the time of the applications)
  2. Identity card or passport (original + copy);
  3. Certificate issued by the education institution (issued by the International Relations Officer);
  4. *Proof of the legal ownership over the dwelling space (in Romanian, in original + copy);
  5. A paper folder with fasteners (or “dosar cu şină”, you can find it in every print shop/copy center);
  6. Proof of health insurance ONLY if you are older than 26 years old (either European Health Insurance or private insurance)

The document is valid for a period of up to 5 years, and not less than one year.

  • Students with non-EU citizenship

Non-EU citizens who will stay in Romania for longer than 90 days need to apply for a temporary residence permit at the General Inspectorate for Immigration within the first 30 to 60 days since your arrival in Iasi. You can apply for a temporary residence permit only based on your visa.

You must apply for the RESIDENCE PERMIT online, via this portal: https://portaligi.mai.gov.ro/portaligi/. The following documents are required:

    1. Application Form (will be taken directly from the General Inspectorate for Immigrations at the time of the applications)
    2. Passport in original + copy
    3. Letter of Acceptance for studies in original (issued by the International Relations Office)
    4. Certificate issued by the education institution, in Romanian (issued by the International Relations Officer)
    5. *Proof of the legal ownership over the dwelling space (in Romanian, in original + copy)
    6. Medical certificate with the mention „clinic sanatos” from the doctor of the campus
    7. A paper folder with fasteners (or „dosar cu șină”, you can find it in every print shop/copy center)
    8. Proof of health insurance ONLY if you are older than 26 years old (private insurance)

* Proof of the legal ownership over the dwelling space means:

– Accommodation contract for students staying in the University campus + a certificate from the student residence Gaudeamus, room 2, together with a written approval on the same certificate from Gaudeamus

– For students having a private accommodation either the renting contract (between landlord and tenant) certified at Iasi General Directorate of Public Finances or the landlord’s written declaration regarding the student’s boarding/lodging agreement + his/her real estate contract in original + copy, translated into Romanian.
