Language Requirements

Attending a full-degree programme in Romanian is conditioned by providing a recognized Romanian Language Certificate which may be issued by:

one of the Romanian universities accredited to offer the Preparatory Year of Romanian as a foreign language;

the Romanian Language Institute or the Romanian Cultural Institute

Candidates who can prove that they have attended at least 3 consecutive years of study in Romanian, while residing in Romania, do not need such a certificate.

If a candidate does not speak Romanian, he/she must attend the courses of the Preparatory Year (2 semesters). During the first semester, international students will study Romanian language for the levels A1-A2. In the second semester, they will continue studying Romanian at a more advanced level, focusing on the vocabulary specific to the subject areas chosen by the candidate (Medicine, Sciences, Economy, Law, Humanities). The purpose of the specialized language acquisition module is that of reaching levels B1-B2 by the end of the Preparatory Year.

Attending a full-degree programme in a foreign language is conditioned by passing a linguistic proficiency exam or by providing a language certificate.

Candidates’ language certificates submitted to their application files are assessed by the Commission of Admissions of the respective Faculty. Students who come from countries with the same official language as the one of their chosen study programme or those who provide an internationally recognized certificate of linguistic proficiency equivalent to CEFR level B2 – Upper-Intermediate (e.g. TOEFL, Cambridge, IELTS, DELF B2 or other language certificates as foreseen in the Order no. 5219/2010 issued by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports) do not need to take the linguistic proficiency exam.

Candidates who include in their application files a language certificate that is not internationally recognized are admitted on condition that they pass the linguistic proficiency exam before the start of the academic year.
