The English Language and Literature Department and French Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Letters, in partnership with the Geography and Geology Faculty of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of the West University of Timişoara announce the fourth edition of the International Symposium for Students and Young Researchers InterCulturalia, a bilingual online event to take place on the 14th and 15th of May 2021.

The traditional partners of the event are the Linguaculture Centre for (Inter)cultural and (Inter)lingual Research of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi, the Centre for Higher Education Performance of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi (CRU UAIC), the Alumni Foundation of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi, the British Council, the Embassy of the Republic of France in Romania, the French Institute in Romania – Iaşi, Lectorat de Français – Iaşi, The Francophone University Agency in Central and Eastern Europe (AUF en ECO), the Romanian Association of Francophone Higher Education Departments (ARDUF), the Centre for Canadian Studies of Iaşi (CSC), the Association of the Francophone Students of Iaşi (ASFI), the Association of Journalism Students (ASJ), the Association of Francophone Medical Students of Iaşi (AMSFI).

This edition of the InterCulturalia Symposium has attracted 114 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students from 25 universities in 12 different countries and spanning 3 continents. The keynote speakers are academics from Bulgaria, Germany, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Scotland, Turkey, and Andrei Neguţ, a PhD student from the West University of Timişoara. The workshop on the 15th of May will be coordinated by Cristina Chiusano, a PhD student from Uruguay.

The participants and guests will be given a virtual tour of the city of Iaşi, guided by Dr. Mihai Bulai, the vice-dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology.

InterCulturalia is an intersection of both cultural diversities and approaches to interculturality and transculturality from an interdisciplinary perspective. The 2021 edition “Transculturalism and Cultural Confinements / Transculturalité et confinements culturels” invites reflections upon the relations between transculturality and confinement in the global context of pandemic times.
