Between the 4th and 15th of July 2022, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași organized the fifth edition of the JASSY International Summer School (a Journey through life and hArd sciences, economicS, Social sciences and the tourism industrY). This year’s pool of participants has been quite wide-ranging, with 78 students coming from China, Switzerland, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, Spain, the United States of America, Turkey and the Ukraine, as well as 12 UAIC students and 3 local high school students. Participants had the chance to obtain 6 ECTS credits upon the successful completion of one of the following interdisciplinary modules of the JASSY Summer School:

  • Life Sciences in the Race Against Emerging Threats to Human Health
  • Hard Sciences Unveiled – an Interdisciplinary Tour;
  • Finance and Risk Management;
  • Strategic Human Resource Management;
  • Eastern Europe: Cultural Frames, Identities and Social-Political Perspectives;
  • Tourism at the Eastern Border of the EU. Interdisciplinary Training for Tour Guides.

This JASSY edition has featured 16 students from member universities in the EC2U alliance, 17 students from partner universities in the Ukraine and 18 students from the UAIC branch campus located in Balti, Republic of Moldova.

The interdisciplinary module entitled Life Sciences in the Race Against Emerging Threats to Human Health has provided participants with both theoretical knowledge and the opportunity to develop practical skills in the field of Life Sciences. Those who have joined the module Hard Sciences Unveiled – an Interdisciplinary Tour have studied, among a plethora of other gripping topics, AI and spectroscopic techniques used in monitoring the atmosphere. The Finance and Risk Management module has offered its participants a crash course in measuring and managing financial risks, in accordance with the standards imposed by prestigious global certifiers in the field. Students who have enrolled in the Strategic Human Resource Management module have gained the ability to generate and integrate key organizational skills, conduct a professional strategic analysis, and create value for the organization in which they will work as HR specialists. The Eastern European Perspectives module has offered its participants the opportunity to correctly interpret the particularities of the Eastern European culture, but also the place and role of Romania in the Eastern European region. Students who attended the courses of the Tourism at the Eastern Border of the EU. Interdisciplinary Training for Tour Guides module got to uncover some of the trade secrets of a successful tour guide, seen through an interdisciplinary lens.

The JASSY International Summer School also included daily extracurricular activities, such as the guided tour of the city and of the Palace of Culture, an introduction to kayaking, bird watching skills, wine tasting techniques and much more.
