About the faculty

The Faculty of Biology is as old as Alexandru Ioan Cuza University itself as it was at first a department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Here training is offered to future teachers and researchers, as well as to specialists who can then work in companies that use biotechnologies, in hospitals or in the ecological field.

Students and teachers have at their disposal an important material basis for research and practice:

  • Faculty’s research centres of Agigea (Black Sea) and Potoci (Bicaz)
  • Botanical Garden
  • Museum of Natural History (Romania’s oldest)
  • Herbarium – a luxurious collection of plants.

Faculty’s fundamental and applicative research concerns: biodiversity, modern biotechnologies, ecology, integrated and biological obliteration of harmful agents, genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, celular biology, anatomy, cytology, vegetal physiology, histology, etc.
