Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAIC) won the 2014 Romania and Republic of Moldova final of CFA Institute Research Challenge, a competition held under the auspices of the CFA Institute with more than 3500 participants from 775 universities in over 54 countries.

The event took place on March 1, 2014 in Bucharest and was hosted by CFA Romania, the country’s preeminent association for local investments professionals. Participants included teams of students representing the major schools of economics in both countries: Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, West University of Timisoara, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.

UAIC was represented by Sargis Adikyan, Nazik Asryan, Ionut Adrian Chirica, Valeria Plesca, and Lucretiu Serbeniuc, students in the master program in Finance and Risk Management (FRM). They assumed the role of investment research analysts and prepared and presented an equity research report on Banca Transilvania, a Romanian company listed at Bucharest Stock Exchange. The team was coordinated by Bogdan Bilaus, as Industry Mentor from CFA Society Romania, and Silviu Ursu, Associate Professor in Financial Markets and Coordinator of the Master in Finance and Risk Management.

Repeating the success from 2013, when a FRM team represented UAIC and won the first Romanian edition of the competition, is a strong indicator of the skills and knowledge obtained in this double-degree program organized in collaboration with the University of Groningen (Netherlands). Through a curriculum aligned with the CFA Body of Knowledge, FRM, a program designed For Ready Minds, provides its graduates a guarantee for their future performance in investment analysis and economic research.

The winning team of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi will represent Romania in the EMEA final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, which will be held in April 2014, in Milan (Italy).
